The Borstal Boy And The Professor

I am writing this because the debate over Europe messes with my head. It takes me back to my Skinhead days and my wild youth...back in the day because I chose to shave my head, wear bovver boots and a crombie ...people I didnt know and never met would class my sort as racist. The fact I grew up loving reggae, SKA, two-tone, my best mate at school was black ... went over the head of posh middle class `suburban rebels`...trendy wankers like Tom Robinson ... and posh public schoolboys and bolshie bigots... people who thought it was perfectly OK to attack the genuine working class. At the time I willingly admit I was `wrong` about many things ... I was wrong to confuse `Posh people` with `educated people` ... I some how saw both as the `enemy` ... nowadays I respect clever people in much the same way I`d admire rock stars and footballers... but still hate toffs like Cameron and champagne socialists like Blair and Mandelson ... I have been left wing all my life but never voted Labour ... never voted for anyone to be honest ... but back in the day middle class suburban rebels from the NME and Guardian would attack me because I slagged off Labour ... like Martin Peters with football ... I was 20 years before my time ... now everyone hates New Labour ... I have been proved right in calling Labour MPs `posh` and the enemy of the working class ... but although Corbyn is a breath of fresh air ... I still find myself ... by default ... supporting the wrong `team`. I want OUT of Europe ... but NOT for the same reasons as Farage ... I want out because Brussels like Westminster is run by Corrupt, posh, upper middle class socialists who are anti-working class ... so how do I vote "Get out of Europe` without being linked to UKIP ? I am against everything UKIP stands for ... but I hate the arrogant and self-interested cheerleaders for Europe like Blair, Mandelson, Heseltine, Ashdown ... but where is the educated working class spokesman to speak for me? I now face that same false accusations as when I started out as a punk poet ...because of my views on Europe. I am anti-Europe and want us to leave ... I dont want to be on the same side as Nigel Farage and UKIP ... but somehow I am ... though for entirely different reasons. But how do non-educated working class people like me find a educated person to articulate our views? First... I do not have a `chip on my shoulder` about not going to University ...the fault lies with me ... I am not blaming society...my old schools or former teachers ... I had no interest in school ... all I wanted to do was play football , chat up girls and break the rules. As a teenage tearaway I had no idea that education was the most important thing in the world. I just wanted to be a Cockney Georgie Best or white Pele ... You cant turn back the clock but `God` how I wish I went to university. Getting back to Europe ... I will be voting to leave ... but not because I support Nigel Farage ... I disagree with him about everything ... which is why I need a educated person to explain how without wanting to ... I`ve ended up on his side. I`m against UKIP ... as I dont believe in the United Kingdom ... I dont support the Royal Family ... I dont hate European people ... just EU politicians ... in the same way I dont like UK politicians ...I love European countries and culture...but not European rules... I dont like UK rules...I`m not a fan of any rules ... regardless of who makes them. But how do I explain ... how do I articulate the fact ... love football - hate FIFA ... that to me is a perfectly correct analogy. I dont like UK politicians ... I believe 99% are corrupt ... I dont like the British Establishment ... the British powers that be ... telling me what to do...so why I should want corrupt European politicians telling me what to do? I dont like or trust or respect local councilors ... County Councilors... British MPs ... so surely it follows that I dont like European politicians ... for me it is simple ... but why would people call me `racist` ... a `Little Englander` ... or anti-european ... because I dislike the corrupt bastards of Brussels...just as much as I hate the corrupt scum of Westminster? This is why I need a educated person to articulate my views. Although lacking a formal education ... I do not consider myself `thick` as I have a love of books, music, films , poetry , . I learned about the Arts through my obsession with David Bowie ... who introduced me to Lou Reed, Andy Warhol, and all things Avante Garde ... and The Sex Pistols changed my life with Anarchy In The Uk ... and then Paul Weller with his songs and the album Setting Sons made me political ... but not what experts would call politically aware in the traditional sense. I am by nature/character/background more left wing then Jeremy Corbyn ... yet during my Skinhead/Oi days people I`d never met would label my `sort` as right wing ... it hurt ... it confused me ... but I didnt ... still dont ... have the education to destroy their misconceptions. I`ve always know where I stood when it come to politics ... always on the side of the underdog. During the `troubles` I hated the IRA ... but I agreed with everything they stood for ... and supported all they demanded ... as Paul McCartney sung "Give Ireland Back To The Irish" ... but I couldnt understand why they bombed working class pubs in urban parts of London. I wrote during my early punk days ... that I had more in common with working class blacks then middle class whites ... but couldnt understand why the riots took place in the inner cities ... I wanted working class kids ... black and white ... to jump on trains and riot in the Shires. Every Issue messes with my head... I HATE foxhunting ... at the same time I dislike the protesters. I`m a veggie ... but dont like people who rant about `meat is murder` ... I agree with them ... just as I agree with anti-foxhunters I just dont like people telling me what to do. I dont smoke ... never have ... but dislike the fanatics who want to ban it. I love football but hate Blatter / FIFA So do I vote against Europe without being linked to UKIP ? Matthew , my idea for a book is you a educated person trying to articulate how a genuine working class person is left-wing withoout being a traditional socialist. I want Corbyn to boot out the `Tory Reds` and I want to leave Europe ... so how do I square the circle ... I am a left-wing working class rebel who does NOT what to be linked with UKIP ....
